Treating Premature Ejaculation with Homeopathy
There is no set or standard time for how long a man should “last” during sexual intercourse. But when a man has an orgasm before he wants to, he loses his erection and can’t continue with intercourse. Premature ejaculation can be annoying and uncomfortable. You may experience you don’t have sufficient time to get pleasure from sex. You may have problem satisfying your spouse. For some men, embarrassment about premature ejaculation can cause harms with intimacy and break their relationships in the long run.
The main symptom of premature ejaculation is an unmanaged ejaculation both before or shortly after sexual intercourse begins. Ejaculation occurs before the person desires it, with least sexual stimulation.
Homeopathy works especially well in those cases where the cause of sexual dysfunction is psychological such as depression, stress or anxiety of performance. In cases where nerve damage (due to surgical causes) has resulted in erectile dysfunction or impotence or ejaculation problems, homeopathy can help to improve the nerve functions over a period of time. As far as drug-induced causes are concerned, the physician may suggest alternative medications that may not have an adverse effect on the person's sexual functions. Lastly, constitutional homeopathic treatment can also help in tackling systemic causes of sexual dysfunction such as obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, hormonal problems, etc.

Treating Prostate Gland
The prostate gland is a male reproductive organ. It is about the size
of a walnut and is found at the base of the bladder. Diseases of the
prostate gland include enlargement of prostate gland (also called benign
prostatic hyperplasia or BPH), inflammation of prostate gland or
prostatitis, emission of prostatic fluid, pain in the prostatic fluid.
Many men experience urinary changes as they age. Troublesome urinary
symptoms are sometimes but not always, symptoms of prostate cancer.
Homeopathic treatment has broader scope in treating symptoms of prostate
gland.
In this article we’ll mainly concentrate on BPH but other diseases of the prostate gland will be discussed. The symptoms of enlarged prostate or BPH are:
Frequent Need to Urinate: It happens when the growing prostate presses on the urethra, the tube that carries urine out of your body.
Difficulty urinating: With an enlarged prostate, it may take you longer to get the flow of urine going, and the flow may be weaker than it used to be.
Inability to Urinate: This can happen when advanced BPH blocks your urethra entirely or as a result of a bladder infection.
Prostate Cancer: Symptoms of BPH can be scary because some of them are the same as those for prostate cancer. But an enlarged prostate is much more common than prostate cancer.
Allopathic approach to treat Enlarged Prostate or BPH:
Drugs: The drugs are sometimes prescribed for high blood pressure, alpha blockers help relax the muscles in the prostate gland and bladder. This allows urine to flow more freely. Some medications known as 5-alpha reductase inhibitors help stop the prostate from growing. However, these medications can also lower sex drive and cause erectile dysfunction. Besides combining a medicine that relaxes the bladder muscles. There are complementary medicines which newer research has shown no benefit.
Less Invasive Procedures: When medication doesn't do the job, a number of procedures can remove excess tissue from the prostate, easing obstruction of the urethra.
Surgery: The most common surgery is a transurethral resection of the prostate. An instrument is inserted through the tip of the penis and into the urethra to remove parts of the enlarged prostate.
Will BPH Affect My Sex Life? There is some evidence that older men with severe BPH symptoms may be more likely to have problems in the bedroom, compared to other men their age. Some of the medications commonly used to treat BPH have been associated with problems getting an erection and ejaculating.
Homeopathic Treatment: In homeopathy we treat enlarged prostate along with other problems of the prostate gland as per symptoms. The following symptoms are taken into consideration:
With the BPH patient feels that he is sitting on a ball. Sometimes we see suppuration from prostate gland along with tension and nervousness in the area. There is twitching and uneasiness. With the enlargement of prostate gland we see dribbling of urine after stool and urine. Enlargement can be senile or diseases of the old age.
Another problem is suppuration sensation with or without fullness and gurgling sensation. There may be hardness without enlargement. These entire problems are associated with induration or swelling especially in old people. There is a sensation of heat and heaviness particularly during lascivious thoughts. We see inflammation or prostatitis from suppressed gonorrhea. In that case there are gonorrheal discharges from urethra. There may be irritation & jerking in the region. These complaints may be after onanism or self abuse or masturbation.
Emission of prostatic fluid is a common disease with so many peculiarities. It can be accompanied with inflammation of bladder. Prostatic fluid is dribbling, easily discharged; even an emission of flatus causes the emission. It can be seen with every emotion, can occur during erection or without any erection. It may occur while fondling women or during lascivious thoughts, while talking to a young lady, while sitting, with stool mainly with difficult stool or soft stool or after stool. There may be emission from thinking of it. It may be before, during or after urination.
Pain in the prostate Gland is common. It can take place on blowing nose, in cancer patient, after coition, during erection, during gonorrhea. Jarring, riding, sitting, standing may aggravate the pain. Pain may be seen while urging to stool, or after stool, during urination, at close or end of urination & after urination. There may be urging to urinate which may aggravate or ameliorate while walking. There may be aching pain in bladder and deep in pelvis in the morning and forenoon after coition (sex). Pain may be biting, burning, constrictive, dragging & drawing. While walking we see pressing pain in the perineum. Pressing pain can be seen during sex, at beginning of erection, on blowing nose, standing, while walking, during or after urination. We also see pulsating pain – in the region of prostate gland. There may be shooting or stitching pain, sometimes with soreness.
Following Lifestyle Changes and strategies may help the patients:

Treating Depression
Depression is a common mental disorder characterized by sadness, loss
of interest or pleasure, feelings of guilt or low self-worth, disturbed
sleep or appetite, feelings of tiredness, and poor concentration.
Usually, it is caused by a combination of factors. Evidences have been
found to explain different causes of depression. Homeopathic treatment
for depression is so successful which can be taken along with talk
therapy. Some of them are as follows:
Genetics:
It is one of the most influential factors where depression runs in families. The genetic risk of developing clinical depression is about 40% if a biological parent has been diagnosed with the illness. Researchers have been trying to discover the specific gene or combination of genes responsible for it. One of the recent researches suggests the genetic link to depression to a region on chromosome 3. Nevertheless, the carrier of such genes may or may not develop depression as having the tendency for it does not guarantee being a patient.
Environment:
Environmental factors may include stressful events like loss of a loved one, relationship difficulties, illnesses and different experiences during a life span. These factors along with genetic factors increase chances of developing depression. A research conducted on twins has shown that it is not entirely genetic for the twins to develop a disease (major Depression) but there is also an influence of the environment.
Hormonal Imbalance:
Strong evidences have been found that risk of depression is greater in women than in men. One of the reasons is hormonal imbalance. It directly affects the part of the brain responsible for mood and emotions, and whenever women experience hormonal changes in the case of post-partum depression or premenstrual syndrome (PMS), the risk for developing depression increases.
Treatment options:
Many treatments are used to help people with depression. One of these treatments is psychotherapy - also known as "talk therapy". "It involves helping patients develop understanding of various problems, as well as new beliefs and behaviors which can ultimately lead to more successful adjustment”. Depending on the patient’s need, different formats are used such as individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy, etc. Some of the main therapies are discussed below:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT):
Different life events affect one’s thoughts, beliefs and behavior. This therapy works on a person’s inappropriate thoughts, inaccurate beliefs and unhelpful behavior. It is a combination of two therapies, namely, Cognitive Therapy and Behavioral Therapy. In this therapy, the patient is asked to focus on the problem and find its solution.
CBT helps one to identify the negative thoughts and beliefs. It helps to change the thinking patterns and beliefs to positive ones, eventually, affecting the behavior to be more positive and healthy. It also helps the patient to recognize the reasons that may be increasing depression. This therapy is very useful with people having minor or moderate depression.
Psychodynamic Therapy:
This therapy focuses on the unconscious mind and past experiences. Its main goal is to give one better insight of thoughts and emotions and create self-awareness. It is based on theory of psychoanalysis proposed by Freud which states that the behavior of the person is affected by his unconscious mind; so, depressing events are somewhat associated with these thoughts and emotions. Thus, this therapy helps one to deal with psychological issues more effectively, leading to emotional satisfaction.
Islamic approach:
As Muslims, we must take advantage of the useful techniques which help in decreasing depression but should believe that ultimate cure is only from Allah. The best kind of psychotherapy we have is du’a. This talk therapy not only eases us by asking or saying whatever we want to Allah, but it also removes the cause of depression by His Will. Allah says:
“...indeed I am near. I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me. So let them respond to Me [by obedience] and believe in Me that they may be [rightly] guided.” (Quran 2:186)
We must turn to Allah in every condition and have trust in Him alone, so that we may be rightly guided by Him. Indeed from Him comes the guidance and tranquility for those who submit to Him.
Homeopathic approach to depression: Like any other cases of sickness a qualified homeopath takes a case properly and particularly considers the following issues:

Symptoms can occur periodically, every fourteen days.
Weather modalities: Depression may get worse or better in the open air, during chill, cloudy weather, becoming cold, or hot, sultry weather, sunshine, thunderstorm and warm room.
Sexual symptoms: Depression can take place after coition or sexual intercourse, from emission or after pollutions, masturbation or onanism, after suppressed sexual desire, with or without sexual excitement. Depression may be associated with impotence.
In females we see it during menopause, before, during or after menses, from suppressed menses, menses during can also ameliorate, during first menses (menarche), in pregnancy, during labor, during lactation or in nursing women, from continence or chastity. Depression in girls is prominent especially before puberty.

Health Psychology
Mental and emotional factors have so many influences on physical
health. In homeopathic treatment every aspects of mental-emotional
factors is considered for treating a patient. The mental-spiritual,
emotional-psychic and physical factors (including sex, sleep, food and
five senses) are not in reality separate distinct, but rather there is a
complete interaction between them. Following is the hierarchy of these
three levels (A is most complicated, I or H is least complicated) by
which homeopath assess depth of sickness and treat the patient:
Mental
A. Complete mental confusion
B. Destructive delirium
C. Paranoid ideas
D. Delusions
E. Lethargy
F. Dullness
G. Lack of concentration
H. Forgetfulness
I. Absent mindedness
Emotional
A. Suicidal depression
B. Apathy
C. Sadness
D. Anguish
E. Phobias
F. Anxiety
G. Irritability
H. Dissatisfaction
Physical
A. Brain ailments
B. Heart ailments
C. Endocrine ailments
D. Liver ailments
E. Lung ailments
F. Kidney ailments
G. Bone ailments
H. Muscle ailments
I. Skin ailments
Each description in the three above areas has thousands of particular symptoms and its degree of intensity which a homeopath must consider to prescribe a medicine. The symptoms are triggered by different bio-psycho-social-spiritual factors which homeopaths take seriously into consideration.
Definition of health psychology: The study of social, behavioral, cognitive and emotional factors that influence the maintenance of health, development of illness, course of illness and patient and family’s response to illness.
Definition of Health by Prof. George Vithoulkas: In homeopathy we do believe that the human being is an integrated whole acting all the time through three distinct levels- the mental, the emotional, the physical, the mental being the most important and the physical the least. The person who is really healthy on all three levels of his being physical, emotional and mental has: freedom from pain on physical level with a feeling of well being, freedom from passions on the emotional level with a state of dynamic calmness and freedom from egotism and selfishness on the mental level while the person feels unity with truth of God.
World Health Organization Definition of Health:
From this definition we can see that the definition of health given by Prof. George is more comprehensive.
Different factors (genetics, behavior, medical care) contribute to health status: medical care is just 10%, Behavior or lifestyle contributes to 40% of health status, genetics are 20%, general (viruses, etc) – 30%.
Bio-Psycho-social-spiritual model – multiple factors produce multiple effects regarding our health. Health is affected by biology, behavior, environmental, cognitive and socio-cultural factors. Psychological components of health – behavior, emotions, cognition and personality impact health. Some psychological factors have direct influence on physiological processes, anxiety causes high blood pressure. Our behavior also influences physical health, eating healthily, exercising, etc, stress could cause overeating. Physical health could also influence psychological status, eg: cancer could cause depression which could make the disease worse.
Social variables – social class impacts health greatly. Cultural beliefs, practices, family and social support all affect Health (Hadith – whoever wants increase in age and sustenance should keep relations with family).
Increased levels of social support influence in the following way- Reduced risk of physical illness, faster recovery from illness, reduced risk for mental illness, better adherence to medical regimens, better adjustment to chronic disease, lower mortality rates.
Lack of social support – Increased risk for premature death, poorer health outcome, poorer adjustment to illness, depression and later-life cognitive decline, Major risk of morbidity and mortality.
Spiritual influence – Nuh (AS) told his people that those who turn to Allah will have increased life (Nuh 71:23 – Tafsir Ibn Kathir). Obedience to Allah leads to increase in lifespan and good health. Research shows that religious people have chances of living longer (average of seven years) than non-religious people. Religious people tend to have better social support and better health behavior, this is one factor. Studies show that religious people are 30% less likely to die young than non-religious people. Religiousness helps coping with illness and quality of life, has impact on heath outcome. Religious values, beliefs impact medical life.
Health benefits of religiosity – better immune functioning, less heart disease, better cardiac outcomes, lower blood pressure, lower cholesterol, lower death rates from cancer, less likely of alcohol and drug abuse, likely to never have smoked, likely to improve health behaviors and maintain changes, better physical health, proper nutrition, greater usage of preventative measures, better compliance to treatment.
Stress and Illness:
Stress – It is the physical and psychological response to overwhelming events, reaction to challenges or threats. It might be caused by lack of resources to meet demands, upset life pattern. Stress is natural part of life, universal, unique experience for each person. The question is- do we need stress? The answer is Yes, we need eustress not distress. Eustress means moderate or normal psychological stress interpreted as being beneficial for the experience while distress means extreme anxiety, sorrow, or pain.
Causes of stress:
External factors of stress – events, situations, people or demands (new baby, work, financial problems, lifestyle). Internal factors of stress – thoughts, perceptions, feelings (perfectionism, pessimism, negative self-talk, low self-esteem). Stress may be chronic or acute. Chronic or long-term stress (living in warzone, daily traffic) VS Acute/temporary stress affects health differently – Chronic stress causes more health problems.
a) Continuous ongoing stress keeps the body alert, this releases ACTH (stress hormone) which releases cortisal which suppresses the immune system.
b) So continuous stress causes bigger chance of health problems.
c) It also affects behavior (overeating, smoking) which cause illness.
d) Some diseases that can be causes by stress – eczema, depression, cancer, flu, asthma, heart disease, stomach ulcer, PTSO, eating disorders, migraines, hypertension, sleep deprivation, chronic fatigue and many others.
Stress causing illness, eg: bad life event – perceived as threat – causes person to become depressed, hostile, pessimistic which causes poor nutrition, seclusion and smoking and chases people away, all of which leads to illness. On the other hand, perceiving the bad life event as a challenge causes a person to be easy going and optimistic which stimulated eating well and exercising regularly and being sociable, all of which has positive impact on health.
Cognitive appraisal – do we perceive the situation as a threat (causes stress) or not, perceive that we can’t cope with threat, causes negative stress, believing you can handle the threat causes positive stress.
Physical symptoms of stress – headaches, fatigue, insomnia, nausea, tightness in neck and shoulders,
restlessness, rapid heartbeat, sickness, weight change.
Cognitive symptoms – forgetfulness, poor concentration, negative attitude, excessive worry, confusion,
boredom, lethargy, frustration.
Emotional symptoms – anxiety, the blues, depression, mood swings, bad temper, crying spells, irritability, feeling jumpy, nervous laugh, easily discouraged.
Important contributions of psychology to health: It Has provided techniques useful in changing behavior that affect health and illness, committed to keeping people healthy rather than waiting to only treat them when they become ill, prevention - developing measures for assessing health-related factors and contribute a solid foundation of scientific methods for studying behavior that affects health.
Dr. Benojir integrates all the above issues while treating patients.
